Artist on Safari
David was born in Wethersfield Connecticut in 1950. He is a retired neuropathologist.
He studied at the University of Connecticut, Albert Einstein, and Yale. He specialized in Alzheimer's disease.
At age 14 his mother gave him his first paint set which remained unopened for two years.
Upon his return from a school trip to Paris, France, he opened the paint set,
having been inspired by the great works of art he had seen at the famous
Louvre Museum. He began with an art class and studied the Masters.
Today, David lives in Niantic on the Connecticut shore and enjoys painting
the coastline while trailing a fishing line from his boat on Long Island Sound.
David works in oils doing primarily Seascapes and some figures, landscapes and animals.
The seascapes depict various aspects of the ocean as seen both from on shore and off shore.
Artist's Statement:
My goal is to trigger a visual memory or fantasy in the viewer.
I try to create a picture that tells a story in one glance, and spark that moment of recall.
Using shapes and colors to communicate a feeling, my message is the deja vu sensation
of a meaningful sight experienced by the viewer.
It is a personal conversation between the two of us and it is hiding within the picture.
